Howdy Uncle Paul,
I think your insights on owning a KZ1000P were right on the money.
Especially the paragraph that begins "Most people have to get
real close to figure out that you're not a cop..."
I don't wear the shades, but everything else is applicable.
I even keep the milk crate on the radio stand as much as
possible to further clarify the distinction. Doesn't work.
People still slow down in front of me. :)
Anyway, here's some pics of mine:

It's "under construction" (go figure).
I just scanned the pics this weekend and I haven't really filled
in much content yet. For the most part, your page just about
covers it.
If the links to your page bother you, let me know and I'll toss them.
Again, thanks... I was considering a Kawa Drifter 800 but Kawa decided
not to bring the 800 to the states this year. A friend had a
'92 Vulcan 750 he was going to sell me for $2K if no one took it
at $2.5K... someone did.
The local cops are selling off their 1993's (mine was ~49Kmiles)
through the predominant dealer in these parts. I wanted something
sturdy and safe, but for my 135 pounds, a 1000 seemed like it would
be a challenge.[*] So, I wanted something used so I wouldn't feel so
bad when I dropped it (3 months, not yet [knock on wood]).[**]
The "enemy tank" fit the bill. Paid about $2.8K (+TTL) for
it in late December.
Anyway... thanks for your inspiration. I took a leap and I'm
_very_ happy, even if I do need to do a few more things to get
it entirely reliable.

ps. I'm a student (perpetual -- since '82) of Texas A&M, just in case
you couldn't tell from the pics. I always enjoy the looks I get
from the members of the Corps of Cadets... they _like_ the bike,
but the ponytail on the guy that's riding it they aren't
too sure about. :)
pss. Please be sure to laugh as you look at the pics. The bike
_was_ meant to be humorous (this university needs to be
poked at on occasion). I just _had_ to do it.
[*] e.g. when head-in parking, always keep the front wheel up-hill
(i.e., back in if necessary)... there ain't no reverse.
[**] There's three "so"s in that sentence... I tried, but, alas,
I couldn't figure out how to rewrite it to eliminate one or
two of them... writing coherently is difficult. I afraid
machine languages are much more manipulable to me.
